Go Deep with Tech

Whether you see it as positive or negative, in today's business world utilizing technology is mandatory. The real estate industry is no exception to that, and perhaps on the other end of the spectrum; new technology is driving our industry. Your clients don’t buy homes the same way their parents did, and they expect you to sell their homes differently than their parent’s agents did.

If you’re pretty tech-savvy, you may be thinking you’re a step ahead, but don’t go too fast here, Turbo. No matter your level of comfort and skill with all things tech and internet, there is always more to learn. In fact, that's one of the problems. There is so much information out there on internet and technology-based platforms that you can get overwhelmed before really implementing anything. You don't have time to run a Facebook page, snap some pics for your lnstagram, write three new blog posts (this week), build five landing pages, research the best CRM and learn to use your companies great new app... so you do none of them.

Or worse yet, and I’m talking to all you tech-savvy folks here, you DO make time for all these activities, but just touch the surface of each, so your time and money are wasted. Throwing a few things out there on the internet does not a growth strategy make!

What’s a busy agent to do? Where is your time and effort best spent?

Step one: spend some time deciding in which areas you'd like to focus. To get started all you need is your brain and your vision for your business. Do you want to be the real estate social media queen? Maybe the king of a rockin’ Treasure Valley real estate podcast? Perhaps you want to dominate with squeeze pages?

Maybe you just want to learn to max out the functionality of your company’s abundant website resources and new app? Would that strategy allow you to reach your goals?

Once you’ve given some thought to your vision and business goals, in less than an hour you can do some basic Google research and learn what your main options are and rule out the ones that don’t fit your tastes, lifestyle, clients or business.

Step two: go deep in your chosen tech area. Get specific and then get a few books, take a class, watch all the YouTube videos you can find, and build your brand with that path. Don't try it for a few weeks and then try something new. Don't read half of one book and half of six others. Don't say you "gave it some time" after one month of effort. All things worth building take time, and just because technology is instantaneous doesn't mean your results from utilizing it will be.

Those of you who consider yourselves technology-challenged might have more of an advantage than you realize. If the people around you are dabbling in everything, and you’re putting in the effort to dominate in one or two things, who do you think is going to come out on top?

Make time to effectively implement technology in your real estate business. The return on that investment has been proven over, and over, and over again, by businesses in every industry. But you don’t have to implement every tech platform or strategy you can get your hands on. Frankly, it can be quite draining to always have ten new tech ideas looming over your head that you “should” implement.

Research enough to know the direction you want to go, and then go deep in that area. It really can be that simple. Agents are incredibly BUSY, and there is always more to do. Pick a tech path, get educated, and implement. Then go out there and dominate. Rise and repeat.
