There are times when it’s beneficial to leave clients and customers with a little something to remember you by. But if all they remember is that your items broke, didn’t work, or would never get any use, you’re not leaving the impression you meant to. Here’s a list of promotional items that can be done well and will be kept and used.
The purpose of promotional materials and items of value is to keep you top of mind, so it’s taken for granted that each item listed below is logoed/branded. I suggest working with companies that can send you samples of what you’re considering ordering. Think: pens that don’t work every other word and cup lids that leak on your lap. If your item makes the users blood boil, you’ll be top of mind for the wrong reasons.
“Wow, this chapstick that tastes like glue and doesn’t work at all is awesome!” -No One Ever
The key to promotional materials hitting the mark is making sure they’re a.) of acceptable quality, b.) that they have a functional purpose, and c.) they don’t break the bank.
Use this list as your jumping off point. Get your creativity flowing and consider how the items below mesh with your unique brand, message and promotional purpose.
Sunglasses Summer is comin’ and the shades are out! Whether you’re handing them out at an outdoor event where they’ll get immediate use, or just relying on them for your spring and summer marketing, people love getting a pair of trendy new shades.
Water bottles and to-go cups, hot or cold These items get a lot of use, and often go to work or on outings with the user, too, so your logo gets some extra visibility.
Blank dry erase sheet with dry erase marker (for groceries or notes) that magnetically sticks to the fridge If you find a useful way to keep your face on the fridge, you’ve all but joined the family.
Dry erase calendar with dry erase marker that magnetically sticks to the fridge See the principles applied above. Most families use some form of calendar system, but most have to be thrown out each month. This is a savable, customizable item that some clients will love and keep long term.
Koozies These don’t get a front and center spot in the house most of the time, but they do get saved and they do get used. They’re also cost effective.
Small coolers Whether it’s the kids lunch or the pool-party refreshments, these have many potential uses and will be appreciated and utilized.
Sticky notes and pens This is basic, but incredibly useful, for other business owners and individuals alike.
Silicone adhesive wallets for cell phones You’ve seen the little credit card sized pouches that stick to the back of cell phones, right? That’s because they’re useful and people like them.
Nightlights These have use for the old and young alike. They will get put to work in almost any home, to light the way to the bathroom or a midnight snack, or to keep junior happily sleeping in his own bed.
Piggy bank This can go hand in hand with marketing about saving for down payments, saving your clients money, etc. You can find card stock versions for under a buck, all the way up to engraved or plated nickel.
Canvas or cotton tote bags This is the old standby. Most homes have a drawer for these and they make their appearances for special events, trips, grocery shopping, etc. They come in handy if you’re handing them out at events, and there’s a good shot they’ll be kept for future use if they’re at least moderate quality.
